Research has shown that adolescents of military families were found to have a higher prevalence of emotional and behavioral difficulties than adolescents of the general population. Much of this is due to the parental deployment of school aged children.

The Patriot Support Program, at Palm Shores BHC, is an intensive inpatient residential treatment program that utilizes social/emotional therapy and trauma-informed care to serve adolescents (ages 11 to 17) of deployed and active-duty military families. The program builds upon the resiliency skills used to overcome challenges in their personal lives.
Adolescents of military families experience a high rate of mental health related issues, such as depression, extreme sadness, excessive worry / anxiety, trauma, externalizing behaviors, and poor school performance.
